Getting protein in a pureed diet is very important but sometimes difficult. Some pureed meat dishes have weird textures that aren’t very appealing. But, that’s not the case with this recipe.

The texture of this puree is like a chicken salad or tuna salad. One that we are all used to. As a matter of fact, you could easily spread this on some toast or a cracker like any other chicken salad.

This puree does have a strong Italian flavor because of the Italian seasoning that is added. Of course, this can easily be adjusted for taste preferences. For even more Italian flavor, add a little garlic powder or extra oregano. Or, even add a few red pepper flakes for people who like a bolder flavor.

Pureeing the Chicken

This recipe is extremely simple, especially if you use canned chicken. Canned chicken has another advantage for purees: it is already broken up into small pieces so it purees better.

To make this puree, simply add cooked chicken, some tomato sauce, italian seasoning, and a little salt and pepper to your favorite food processor. Pulse it a few times, then turn it on high and let it run for a few minutes.

You can also use a blender for this but it is a little difficult to scrape out of the bottom if you have one with a deep pitcher.

Adjusting the Texture

As it stands, this recipe will be pretty thick.¬† If you need a thinner mixture, add more tomato sauce or some warm chicken broth. Water is ok too but that doesn’t add any nutrients or flavor.

If you want the puree to be a little thicker, increase the chicken to 3/4 cup and the tomato sauce to 4 tablespoons.

  • 1/2 cup cooked chicken
  • 3 tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
  1. Place all the ingredients in a food processor or blender. You could also blend them by hand using a fork. 

  2. Once the mixture is well incorporated and soft, microwave it for 30 seconds.
Recipe Notes

Use left over cooked chicken breasts or tenders for this recipe. Canned chicken could also be used for a quick and easy puree.
